Programs - sound amplifiers for PC (Windows)

Software list :

When you have sound problems, it is worth using special software to amplify the sound, to apply various sound effects and to remove extraneous noises

Audio amplification programs may be required for PCs with weak acoustic systems - typical features of such PCs are muffled sound, lack of bass and midrange frequencies, not strong enough bass. Because the standard Windows settings do not allow to amplify the sound, it is necessary to use an audio amplifier for the PC, as modern programs offer a wide range of functions for enriching and enhancing the sound.

Specialized software provides possibilities for audio tracks enhancement, increasing the sound intensity, making it sound 3D, creating "ambient effects", etc. Free versions of audio editors are sometimes somewhat limited, relatively simple to use and require no payment only utility "Audio Amplifier". We will start our review with it.

The editor "Audio Amplifier" allows you to effectively increase the playback volume of audio and video /files. In addition to audio amplification, this software allows you to decrease the volume (you may need it when the file is too loud), and the maximum level of volume increase is 1000% - ten times. We should note the laconic interface of the utility, implemented in today's fashionable "minimalism". The utility cuts out unnecessary noise, providing for better sound quality. Developer:

"Audacity" is a sound quality program that allows you to cut /files, apply filters to improve sound quality and remove noise, apply volume dispersion effects, etc. There is possibility to program hotkeys, the editor is very multifunctional. Developer's website:

"mp3DirectCut" is an editor whose main function is to cut and copy parts of MP3 /files without applying any compression (PCM). The program can be used in all versions of Windows. Official website of developers: //

The programs "Audio Amplifier", "Audacity" and "mp3DirectCut" will be quite useful when you need to listen to audio tracks with very low sound volume and it makes no sense to boost the sound in all applications (as editors below do). They allow to effectively amplify each individual audio track and thus solve the sound reproduction problem.

    Sound Booster

Audio Booster is designed to provide an audio amplification up to a maximum of 500% (5x), with additional functions to avoid distortion. The program is practical and is able to amplify sound in different Windows products: Internet browsers, Skype, players, etc. When considering matching Sound Booster with its analogues, note that only "Sound Booster" does not distort the sound when its volume is turned up. You can optionally add selected functions to frequently used keys, which is quite handy. The program does not take up much space on your computer and if needed you can configure the utility to start automatically at Windows startup.

The trial period is only 2 weeks and after that you have to buy the paid version. You can download it from the official developer's website:

"Hear" is a sound enhancement software with a wide range of functions, including a surround sound function, a very flexible equalizer (similar to the one integrated into the media player), virtual subwoofer, ambience sound implementation module, intensity restoration module and other functions. The main feature of "Hear" is the brainwave synthesizer function, which allows you to give audio the ability to increase your concentration, or vice versa, to dissipate it when you relax. The program is distributed for a small fee. This software is designed for users who are not very experienced in tonal tuning and need to learn how to make the best out of their system. The utility has 6 modules, serving to create a clear and high-quality sound. There are modes: game, for video /files and for listening to audio /files. SRS Audio SandBox has fewer features than Hear, but many parameters are adjustable. There are signal handlers for headphones, regular speakers and speakers in the laptop. Applications that allow you to change the frequency of the sound, add atmosphere, etc. are also used. These include "DFX Audio Enhancer", "Razer Surround" and "VLC" Player.

    DFX Audio Enhancer

"DFX Audio Enhancer" is capable of integrating to all kind of modern Windows applications like Windows Media Player, Skype, etc. Allows you to create a surround effect, amplify the intensity of the sound, compensate for some frequencies, etc. Equalizer allows you to adjust the frequency curve. Razer Surround

"Razer Surround" works with headphones, allowing you to create a surround sound space by fine-tuning. Among the main modules are Voice clarity (noise filtering), Bass boost (bass adjustment), Sound normalization (removal of volume fragmentation) and others. Developer's website:

The main feature of "VLC" player is high-quality playback of network broadcasts. The software is free, but it supports all of the most commonly used formats. "VLC is capable of raising the volume of any played file. You can download "VLC" on your computer from the official site of the program:

    Audio Sliders

    Brief description: Windows Sound Mixer

The Windows Sound Mixer is not a very convenient program, although it would seem there is nothing to "pick on". One of these inconveniences: The audio sliders are rarely readily available at the most crucial moment.

The Audio Sliders application replaces the standard audio sliders. Accessed by a single click instead of the traditional 2 clicks from the system tray, it presents a collapsible panel. Therefore, Audio Sliders reminds you of the so called widgets - mini-applications in Mac OS and Windows. Figuratively speaking, interface is not only "rubbery" but also thin in settings. At the top of the window (buttons 1 to 5) you can choose one of the panel options, each of which can be customized. Below are the actual volume controls. By clicking on the speaker on the right side, you can mute the sound altogether. It is quick and convenient. If ~ key is pressed the "slider" can be "cloned".

From disadvantages: in subjective opinion the overpriced in $19.95 and disproportionate memory consumption of Audio Sliders - about 6MB.
